Although it is the official statistics, the figures are unexpected. I wonder, what all these thousands of aircraft were doing, if as per veterans memoirs they first saw Soviet aircraft in the sky only in 1944? Even the memoirs indicate that big tank formations were left without air support and cover in advance operations in 1943-44. Results were expected - losses, delays and even retreats.
Another point is Soviet post-war movies about the war. If it is not about pilots directly, Soviet Air Force is usually barely mentioned if at all. Luftwaffe seems to be operating without any opposition. I mean, movies can not be treated as evidence but there is no smoke without fire.
